#002 TOXILOGIC

THE STORY BEHIND #002 TOXILOGIC

“Not every battle needs a blade to usher in the void’s unwavering embrace…”

My second piece in The Atomic Ballroom takes initial inspiration from a wonderful snippet of MMORPG history:

9Dragons, a very old, and VERY fun (at the time) MMO that gained popularity during the Freemium MMO boom of the 00s & 10s! Alongside other Kung-Fu MMOs such as 2Swords and Age of Wushu, 9Dragons draws from the beautiful Ming Dynasty in ancient China with a fantasy twist, letting players choose from a number of stylystic ‘clans’ such as Heavenly Demon, Wu Tang, Shaolin, and most importantly to this NFT, Sacred Flower.

“Sacred Flower is one of the few clans that hold women in higher regard than men.  Founded by the Mistress of Chaos after being rejected by the Shaolin, she began her own order.  Training its disciples in speed and dexterity over brute strength, Sacred Flower adherents are not afraid to shed blood if need be.”

Players begin in a dark, secret valley, filled with snakes, poisonous creatures, demons, and a variety of challenges. Sacred Flower inspired me as a source of female empowerment, and reminded me of all the successful women in the real world who professionally compete in sports as well as the rejection, activism, and fighting our foremothers went through to be allowed to compete. From Kung Fu [功夫] such as Hung Gar [洪家], Tai Chi Quan [太极拳],  Ba Gua Zhang [八卦掌], to MMA, wrestling, atheltics, gymnastics, weightlifting and more, women of all races and body types THRIVE in the competitive space today. This should be celebrated and applauded (although our work for equality isn’t over!)

This NFT came together with this inspiration to create a master assassin, skilled in toxins and poisons, never leaving a trail to trace, and silencing all those that would dare slander her and the sisterhood.

Bringing out a dark color combo of toxic-waste green, dark purples, a ceremonial head ornament, and a light blue mist as she appears through the void, I eventually settled on the name Toxilogic.

In my next story, I’ll discuss #003 TRECORUM and the unusual 1971 fantasy film that inspired it. Can you guess what it might be?
